Transformers 3 : Dark Of the Moon

The transformers series is a huge franchise relying on SFX and beautiful girls . Megan Fox was a huge factor in the film's success. So another edition of transformers was expected to be an out n out mindless "cool" hollywood flick. Well it was all that and suprisingly a lil bit more :)

Transformers 3 : Dark of the moon starts of with an irritating lengthy sequence about Apollo 11 which to be honest does not make any sense and could have been done away with completely. Then we move on to our protagonist Sam Witwicky who with his arm candy and its not Megan Fox this time , its Rosie Huntington to whom he goes on cribbing about how he saved the world twice YAWN !!!

So by now , I am thinking this Transformers movie is even worse than the first two. Enter John Turturro a.k.a. Agent Simmons here is where the movie picks up ......with some really funny lines and sequences one finally starts to feel that this aint such a bad movie after all.

Transformers 3 is about the ancient war on Cybertron from which the leader of the autobots Sentinel Prime escapes with a teleportation technology some sorta 'pillars'. He crashes on the moon while being pursued by the Decepticons. All these secrets are revealed when Megatron hatches a plan to get the pillars from the moon. Optimus Prime sets out to the moon to get back Sentinel and revive him using his spark. If I would be continuing about how the story progresses I would actually be giving out the entire movie. The movie progresses as a battle to stop the decepticons form using the pillars as they intend to bring Cybertron into Earth's orbit and rebuild it using Humans as slaves.

There is one sequence where Rosie Huntington tries to have a one on one conversation with megatron and inspires him .......LOL .........neway the movies much better than the first two . The 3d SFX are brilliantly used and Rosie looks SMOKIN in 3d :D . All in all worth a watch.

I would say 3.5 ouuta 5.

Bheja Fry 2 : The Return of Bharat Bhushan

Bheja Fry as the name suggests is centred around a character who can irritate a person to the limit. I am ofcourse talking about the one and only Mr.Bharat Bhushan played very well by Vinay Pathak. Bheja Fry is a part of the new generation comedy films that Indian cinema has started churning out over the last decade including films like Monsoon Wedding, Khosla ka Ghosla , Dasvidanya and more recently Chalo Dilli, Phas gaye re Obama , etcetra although I have not really indulged in watching this sorta cinema these films due to their low budget, simple storyline & some good performances have managed to be fairly successful. Bheja Fry series followed the tales of Bharat Bhushan and how his rustic and naive nature lands him and people around him into convoluted situations. What follows is the typical comedy of errors around which the entire movie revolves.

Bheja Fry 2 starts of with the introduction of the suave Ajit Talwar played by Kay Kay Menon who is a business man with fraud companies n is being inspected by income tax department by Bharat Bhushan's colleague Shekaran . To escape this inverstigation Talwar goes off to a cruise with his friend who incidentally is the producer of a game show which Bhushan has won with the prize being a trip to the same cruise. Ah there is also the lovely Minissha Lamba in the mix who is part of the crew hosting the game show Bhushan has won n she is also Mr.Bhushan's secret crush n an item of Talwar's lustful desire . With these people clashing aboard the cruise the resilt is a series of events leading to Talwar and Bhushan getting stranded on a deserted island. What follows is Bhushan driving Talwar crazy with his antics.

Kay Kay Menon & Vinay Pathak must be applauded for their great comic timing and super performance. Bheja Fry 2 for me is as good as its predecessor. Bhushan singing songs at the most unbelievable moments make some of the memorable moments of the movie. All in all Bheja Fry 2 for what it was meant to be does sufficient justice.

I would rate it 2.5 outta 5.

Pirates Of The Carribean : On Stranger Tides INDEED!!

Pirates Of the Carribean one of the most successful franchises of the last decade , 3 spectacular movies with amazing box office success so there obviously is a lot to expect from the 4th installment of this fantastic series . Pirates has given us one of the most memorable characters whose name can be taken with legendary Hollywood characters like Darth Vader from Star Wars or Don Vito from The Godfather we all know who I am talking about its the irreplaceable Johnny Depp as the witty,crazy,brave,extraordinary Captain Jack Sparrow, the success of a pirates movie is heavily resting on his shoulders. So with all this build up POC4 is surely gonna be a winner and to be honest it is a gr8 movie but well just not as good as its predecessors.

POC4 is largely been made without much of a story its been sorta forced , the characters are well made with Penelope Cruz at her best n Geoffrey Rush someone who pops into your mind whenever u mention the word pirate & Jack as usual is fantastic but due a lack of a thrill factor , no real suspense and an average climax POC4 is no match for its predecessors.

POC4 starts of where the 3rd part left off The fountain of youth sought after by the legendary Black Beard who has an unrealistic n over the top magical ship. The British, Spanish n Jack to seek the fountain. In the midst of all this the steaming Johnny-Penelope chemistry which the people love. The story progresses to getting to the fountain with Barbossa n the British forming and alliance and Jack,Black Beard on the other hand .......so who gets there 1st n uses the fountains magical powers is the gist of the movie.

POC series has its USP in Jacks crazy antics n how he accidentally manages to pull off amazing stunts however POC4 shows him in a different light altogether with him almost becoming a super hero jumping of cliffs n guiding even Barbossa to rob the Spanish. This is where POC4 loses out. Also the over the top Black Beard magic with a not so commanding character of Black Beard just doesn't work. Black Beard should take a note from Davy Jones in this regard. I also wish the 3d effects were used in a more efficient way to increase the thrill quotient.

All this being said i thoroughly enjoyed watching Captain Jack Sparrow return n wish he comes back with many more installments with the class of the first 3 .POC series has always been special to me although POC 4 may have a lot of flaws I just enjoy watching Sparrow too much.

I would give it 4 stars **** :)

Kung Fu Panda 2

Kung fu Panda 1 was one of the most 'awesome' (yes i am gonna use the cliched 'awesome' here) movies I had seen .....although it dint have dat much of a different concept i.e. the underdog rising up to become the hero it just had really great comic moments n a real good sense of direction... also the star cast of Black , Jolie, Hoffman & Chan was an added benefit .....so u could expect an amazing sequel .....So does the movie deliver ???

Well lets say almost ...... Now dont get me wrong i loved the movie but somewhere I found it a lil lacking in content .......the story is weak although the movie is very entertaining for such a storyline ........ its the age old story of the son avenging his parents with extraordinary abilities ....... the humor is ther yes but only in bits and pieces .......Kung Fu Panda's attempt to go down the parents line I thought was a lil similar to the Madagascar series...... I saw the 3d version n dint really find the 3d effects being used to its fullest ....... Having said all this the movie is an entertainer although I would have been really been happy with more comedy .....more visual effects using 3d...... I would give it 3 outta 5 :)

Hey I have been away for a while .... to be honest i really have not found the time to write during this time although u cant really say I was busy .........I just was not in the mood write neways during this time i have seen some amazing movies , i.e., since Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 1 they include Despicable me , Megamind (awesooomeness !!!),Easy A ,Tron Legacy, The King's Speech, No one killed Jessica ,etcetra ........ while Megamind ws amazing,tron's 3d sfx wer really good and No one killed Jessica announced the return of Rani Mukherjee in style. But I guess dats all in the past I hope this time I can be more regular at posting articles .......so keep reading n keep watching the latest flicks.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1

Harry Potter was a phenomenon . Every person of my age ( i.e. 20 now) was totally hooked to the books.

I am a die hard fan of the Harry Potter books .... I must have read the first 4 like 15 times and the next three about 5 times so u can see I am pretty much a crazy follower of the Potter series.

To be honest I have never expected much from the Potter movies for the very reason they have been thoroughly disappointing as compared to the books. That being said the movies have progressively gotten better atleast in terms of ability to engross the audience.

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows is no different , a definite improvement over the Half blood prince .... better visual effects , a more succinct version of the book & even better acting .

A must mention of the brilliant comic performance of Rupert Grint. The small jokes in between are very well done.

Basically for once the movie is fairly loyal to the book as far as possible . The build up of finding the hallows is done well . Also part 1 has a very appropriate ending with Voldemort ( oops) I mean The Dark Lord a.k.a He who must not be named finding the elder wand.

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows is definitely the best of the series so far.

The only complaint which is actually not possible to resolve is I always feel that unless one has read the book he cannot possibly understand the movie thoroughly......there are various examples Harry Potter being one , The Lord of the rings , The Da vinci code , Angels & Demons , Eragon , the list is endless .

SO if you intend to see Harry Potter do try and read the books first , you will definitely enjoy the movie a tad bit more ;) and if you dont like reading go watch the movie neway its worth a watch :)

Band Baaja Baraat

Its the winter break and I am in Mumbai n back to watching movies with family and friends :)

Band Baaja Baraat ......the title has typical movie to watch with mom dad written all over it n so following these rules i did indeed set out with mom dad for a late night show. I was also keen to see Anushka Sharma who looked like a million bucks but more on that later

The movie Band Baaja Baraat after YRFs long run at the box office without a decent hit is a decent movie but definitely could have been better

The 1st half starts out at a nice pace , good humorous bits and a decent story between Bitto and Shruti . Its just when u start to think YRF may have finally produced a winner the plot comes crashing down . The parts where they work to set up their marriage organizing agency are great but after that the entire drama of the one night stand the crying and weeping not to mention the overtly explicit scene which was not needed leaves u waiting for the movie to END and also leaves u sorta uncomfortable sitting besides mum ;)

Although the movie tries to salvage something towards the end by a grand wedding and love between bittoo and shruti but by then the audience has had enough

So summarizing a fantastic 1st half completely ruined by the 2nd is the story of Band Baaja Baraat !

As for the performances well both actors do a great job , Ranveer with great comic timing and Anushka looks great , happy n bubbly.

But had the 2nd half been even average the movie would have been worthy of its title :)
